Brazilian Volleyball’s OTT channel adopts PPV option

The Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) has announced a pay-per-view (PPV) option for its over-the-top (OTT) service as part of a new rights arrangement for the 2019/20 men’s and women’s domestic top-flight volleyball season.

The new offering from the Canal Vôlei Brasil OTT service is part of an array of distribution agreements with both linear and digital media partners in Brazil, which sees every men’s and women’s Superliga match made available for broadcast for the first time.

Fixtures have been divided between pay-TV operator SporTV, Globo Sports’ web platform, the free-to-air TV Cultura network, while CBV’s OTT service will also show at least 12 matches, dependent on the requests from the TV broadcasters. Under the terms of the CBV’s rights agreement with TV Cultura, the FTA broadcaster will air games on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Canal Vôlei Brasil’s new PPV model is one of three pricing options, including R$99.90 (US$24) for a package with all regular-season games from both men’s and women’s leagues, R$59.90 (US$14.50) for either competition, or R$19.90 (US$4.80) for a user-picked selection of matches.

Overall, the channel, which is managed by Brazilian media company TV NSports, will show in regional of 350 hours of live content from the upcoming season, which begins on 9th November.

Guilherme Figueiredo, TV NSports’ executive director, said: “Over the past two years we have broadcast a significant portion of our games for free on our platform,” Guilherme Figueiredo, TV NSports’ executive director was quoted by SportBusiness.

“As we look at the demand, we have concluded that the game is ready to have 100 per cent of its games streamed, generating new revenues for clubs and the Superliga.”
