Formula One taps Cyber1 to ramp up online security efforts

Formula One has enlisted Cyber Security 1 AB (Cyber1) to provide it with cyber security services and solutions.

The five-year deal, which lists Cyber1 as an official global provider of Formula One, will see the London-based company supply the global motorsport series with an array of resilient solutions that will enhance and protect the organisation’s infrastructure from potential cyber threats.

As part of the arrangement, Cyber1 will work closely with Formula One’s information technology department to deliver consultancy, implementation and advisory projects.

“Information technology is a key enabler in our drive to bring the fans closer to the action and IT security underpins all of those services,” said Chris Roberts, head of IT infrastructure at Formula One. “From trackside and extending to our ever-growing digital estate Cyber1 will leverage next generation technology to increase resiliency as we mature our digital engagement programme.”

Cyber1 said it hopes its partnership with Formula One will enhance the company’s overall B2B marketing strategy and grow its overall market presence.

Cyber1 chief executive Nick Viney added: “Both Cyber1 and Formula One share the same vision in terms of cyber resilience and product innovation, in conjunction with initiatives such as empowering diverse workforces, through our mutual drive to increase more female role models in both motorsport and cyber security.

“Enhancing and maintaining the security of Formula One’s evolving IT infrastructure is a key priority for the leadership of both companies as well as for the wider Formula One series ecosystem and the ongoing enjoyment of millions of fans from around the globe.”

The global motorsport series has also signed a deal with Liqui Moly that sees the German oil and additive specialist gain on-track branding at 11 races during the 2019 season, starting with the Bahrain Grand Prix on 31st March.
