US Soccer to enter esports with inaugural Fifa eNations Cup

The United States Soccer Federation (US Soccer) will enter into the world of esports by putting forward an eNational team to compete in the inaugural Fifa eNations Cup this April.

The tournament will be held in London with each nation represented by two esports stars. There are 16 nations confirmed so far for the two-day competition.

US Soccer will be represented by the winner and runner-up of the eMLS Cup. The competition run by Major League Soccer (MLS) consists of representatives from 22 of the league’s 24 clubs, with the final to be played at the end of March.

“We see competitive gaming as an opportunity to engage fans while exposing US Soccer to a growing and connected soccer audience," said US Soccer chief commercial and strategy officer Jay Berhalter. “The US Soccer eNational team will provide a unique platform for the best players in our country to represent the United States in a global competition.”

As the Fifa eNations Cup is set to become an annual event, US Soccer has confirmed it will be looking to explore additional esports activity in conjunction with Fifa and various member associations.
