World Cup prompts TSN and RDS to launch OTT services

Canadian broadcasters TSN and RDS have both introduced over-the-top (OTT) platforms ahead of the Fifa World Cup.

TSN Direct and RDS Direct, a French-language equivalent, will show all 64 matches from the international soccer showpiece with all games also being made available on-demand. Both services will provide five feeds featuring more than 60 championship events, as well as on-demand and exclusive bonus content.

Subscribers paying C$24.99 (US$20) a month will be able to access the services across multiple platforms, including computer, tablet, mobile devices, Apple TV, Xbox One and Samsung SmartTV, with more to be announced.

“While TSN and RDS’ current subscribers already can stream extensive and exclusive sports content, TSN Direct and RDS Direct provide even more viewing options,” Randy Lennox, president of Bell Media, said.

Gerry Frappier, president of French-language TV and RDS at Bell Media, added: “With RDS Direct, we are offering consumers a new way to access the largest portfolio of French-language sports properties in the world.

“It’s more important than ever to provide choice and reach fans wherever they are, and we’re pleased to be the first to offer a subscription-based service in French for sports fans in Québec.”
