Conmebol, South American soccer’s governing body, has agreed a four-year deal with US sports data firm Stats Perform to boost its content output.
The data partnership will see Stats Perform undertake collection and management duties for the competitions under Conmebol’s watch, including the Copa America national team tournament and the Copa Libertadores, the continent’s premier club competition, among others.
Using Stats Perform’s artificial intelligence (AI) systems, statistics such as expected goals (xG) and expected assists (xA) are among those set to be provided to Conmebol for distribution globally by its media, technology and broadcast partners.
The Vista Equity Partners-owned company is also set to provide customisable data-powered ‘widgets’ for Conmebol to distribute across digital and social media platforms during live matches.
Additionally, the firm’s editorial team will be responsible for producing match previews for all Conmebol fixtures, either for use as standalone previews or to inform broadcast operators and commentators.
Juan Emilio Roa, Conmebol’s commercial director, said: “Through our new partnership with Stats Perform, we have access to the biggest sports AI and data provider to help expand our exposure worldwide.
“Through this partnership, our broadcast and media providers will have access to detailed information about each match, team and player, which will provide more compelling stories and insights for fans.”
Stats Perform’s chief rights officer, Alex Rice, added: “This partnership will see us working closely with Conmebol to deliver the best quality data, giving the competition control of their data rights and access to Stats Perform’s expertise and sales network.”
Stats Perform holds partnerships with a number of high profile soccer organisations including La Liga, the Premier League and Major League Soccer (MLS).
