Golden State Warriors launch Game Mode second-screen fan experience
  • Game Mode to include live chat rooms, play-by-play updates and polls
  • Warriors offered second-screen experience for November’s NBA Draft

The National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Golden State Warriors have teamed up with audience engagement platform LiveLike and technology services company Accenture to launch a new second-screen experience on the franchise’s mobile app.

The Game Mode platform offers fans access to live chat rooms during games, while a scoreboard will provide play-by-play updates at the top of screens. Emojis, polls, trivia questions and cheer metres will also be included to boost fan interaction.

As an added incentive, users interacting with Game Mode’s pop-up widgets will earn points in an in-app leaderboard, giving them a chance to win Warriors prizes.

In addition, Game Mode will look to engage with supporters while Chase Center games remain behind closed doors, with the Warriors planning to drive sponsorship around the enhanced engagement.

The Warriors are the first US professional sports team to partner with LiveLike, but this is the latest second-screen, interactive viewing effort from the franchise, which last November launched the Dubs Draft Room forum during the NBA Draft. It is another example of how sports properties are bidding to get fan’s eyes on their own apps rather than losing them to third parties.

LiveLike, meanwhile, has already worked with the likes of Uefa, La Liga North America and Nascar to create digital fan experiences.
