- TUDN Vision to be available for first time during Cruz Azul’s game against Club América on 17th April
- Verizon will also work with Univision’s TUDN on enhanced AR analytics feature
- Virtual broadcast production and new immersive in-stadium experiences also covered in deal
Telecommunications giant Verizon has partnered with Univision to bring 5G experiences to Spanish-language broadcaster TUDN’s US coverage of Liga MX, Mexican soccer’s top flight.
The multi-year deal will see Univision launch the TUDN Vision viewing app, which will give fans access to 360-degree camera views to follow the action.
The new viewing experience, which will be available for the first time during Cruz Azul’s game against Club América on 17th April, will also provide exclusive content, including player arrivals, warmups and training sessions, and post-match press conferences.
Verizon also plans to work with Univision’s TUDN on an enhanced analytics feature, which will use proprietary cameras in stadiums to capture data analytics metrics to be displayed via custom graphics and augmented reality (AR) overlays.
In addition, during US national team friendlies scheduled for the autumn, the pair will collaborate to virtualise broadcast production processes over 5G and develop new immersive in-stadium experiences for fans.
“This partnership between Verizon and Univision is a great example of how 5G can be used to power fan experiences and move the future of second screen experiences forward,” said John Nitti, Verizon’s chief media officer. “We know how passionate soccer fans are about the sport, teams and players and this is a great opportunity to enhance the engagement for the audience.”
Jose Luis Los Arcos, vice president of sports partner solutions at Univision, added: “TUDN Vision will be a dynamic companion piece that will amplify the game-day experience and, along with our new enhanced analytics features, serve to elevate our award-winning coverage of Liga MX.”
The other fixtures that will be available on TUDN Vision at launch will be Tigres UANL’s match with Monterrey on 24th April and Cruz Azul’s game against Club Tijuana on 1st May, with further fixtures to be announced at a later date.
